Before I blog further, I'd like to introduce myself: My name is Emily S. (initial to avoid confusion with EPIC's Managing Director, Emily L.), and I am excited to be replacing Matteo as Research & Advocacy Fellow at EPIC.
It's only my second day here and I'm happy to say the work is challenging, yet rewarding. From the moment I walked into EPIC's office, I knew that through this fellowship I will have a real chance to make a difference on an issue about which I am passionate: Creating a better, brighter future for the people of Iraq.
Iraq is more than just victims and victimizers; U.S. actions have a profound effect on the lives of millions of Iraqis. I love that EPIC puts faces on the people who might otherwise seem just statistics in a news report, and that we're working hard to learn about and educate Americans about the realities of life - and death - in Iraq.

We miss Matteo, but new blood is always good. so how big are the offices you work at. you all seem to be a beehive of activity.
ReplyDeleteI never got to meet Matteo but I can tell from his work that I have big shoes to fill. I will do my best!
ReplyDeleteThe office itself isn't very large. EPIC is a small organization with only five staff members (you can read all about us on the "Leadership" page under "About EPIC," a tab on the main EPIC page), but we are all intensely dedicated to our cause. I find that people who take pride in what they do tend to work harder.
We work very hard.

So, Emily S., have you always been interested in the Iraq issues? Do you feel you have useful ideas to help solve the problems we're facing?
ReplyDeleteHow do you feel about so much of the public that just wants us OUT of Iraq and doesn't want to spend one more cent to help them? There are a lot of people prejudiced against the people and they don't want any of them here. What do you say to them?
